Biggest Field for Youth Circuit Champs

Following two years in London, the National Youth Circuit Race Championships are heading north to Bradford's Lister Park this Sunday. Riders from across the country have responded well to the event with the largest ever fields assembled for championship races in Youth A, B and C categories.The aim of the organisers is to host the best championships ever held and provide riders with a taste of a high class event and a life time experience.

Lister Park is one of Bradford's largest parks and is situated in the Manningham area of the city. It was given the prestigious award of Britain's best parkand has also recently hosted a stage finish for the Tour of Britain. The venue is top class in every respect, set in beautiful parkland with a circuit tough enough to test the best and wide enough for large fields. Magnificent Cartwright Hall sits in the middle of the circuit and provides a stunning backdrop for the races. The course includes a tough climb which should test the young riders as well as giving spectators a great place to see all the action.

This year's championships should be one of the most hotly contested in recent years. The ‘A' Boys race is wide open with local stars, Ollie Wood, Jacob Scott and Jake Womersley looking to impress. Challenges are sure to come from across the Pennines from the strong North West contingent of Chris Lawless and Jake Ragan. The south of the country will also be well represented by the reigning National Champion Germaine Burton and fellow youth international Tao Geoghegan Hart. In the girls ‘A' race multi National track champion Emily Kay will be hoping to survive the tough Lister Park hill and show off her blistering sprint finish, however there are plenty of strong climbers in the field who will look to test her over the course of the race.

For under 8 riders or any children who are new to racing there are also free to enter Go-Ride races on a grass circuit throughout the day. Chris Young, the Go-Ride coach for Yorkshire will be organising these races on the grass area close to Cartwright Hall.

A who's-who of former Professional Yorkshire riders has been invited as guest starters for the various races, they include: Brian Robinson, the first Briton to finish the Tour de France and the first to win a Tour stage. Lisa Brambani who represented Great Britain in the 1988 Olympic Games and 5 World Championships. Chris Walker, Britain's most prolific cyclist of the nineties. Mandy Bishop (nee Jones) who became the Woman's World Road Race Champion and collected 11 National track titles.

As for the Championship races, The Youth B girls kick things off at 10am, followed by the A boys at 11.20am, C boys and girls at 12.50pm, A girls at 2.15pm, B boys at 3.50pm and finally D boys and girls at 5pm.

It really looks as though it's going to be a great event, so get down to Lister Park this Sunday and see just how good the best of the country's youth riders really are! As well as the races there's lots to see and do in the park during the day, with a bike expo and BMX stunt team amongst other attractions.
