Team Wallis CHH's Calum Nicholson took the win at the West Pennine Road Race on Sunday. The race was over 90km and consisted of six laps of Bashall Eaves Circuit in Lancashire.

The winning move was made on the first climb on lap one, when Nicholson managed to escape and was joined by only one rider, Tavis Walker (Adoo Cadence RT). The pair managed to work together and pulled out an initial gap of around 30 seconds. Wallis-CHH's Steve Abbott, Luke Boulton, Jordon Hargreaves and Andy McCann covered any subsequent moves and as a result the gap from the peloton stretched to 56 seconds coming into the last lap. Unfortunately Walker soon suffered a puncture but managed to get a wheel quickly and without the gap coming down too much.

This left the two riders together at the finish and with 200m to go Nicholson managed to sprint for the line and take the win. Steve Abbott managed chip off the front of the remainder of the peloton to take 8th place to round off a great team performance.

British Cycling would like to thank the organising team, officials and everyone else who helped promote this event. Our sport could not exist without the hundreds of people, many of them unpaid volunteers, who put in many hours of hard work running events, activities and clubs.
