2011 European Youth Olympic Festival
Information and selection criteria
Date and Venue: The 20011 EYOF will take place in Trabzon, Turkey from Saturday July 23rd to Saturday July 30th. The cycling events are planned for the 26th, 27th& 28th. The cycling team will travel out on Monday 25th July due to the Youth National Circuit Championships taking place on the 24th, returning with the rest of Team GB on the 30th.
Eligibility
• The European Youth Olympic Festival is open to boys born in 1995 or 1996 only.
• All 3 selected riders will travel and compete in all events listed below.
Events
• Individual Time Trial - 9km
• Criterium. 34 km with qualification heats and finals.
• Road Race. 64km
Note: It is likely that only standard bikes with spoke wheels will be permitted for all events.
Selection criteria
Performances in the following youth events will form the basis of selection:
• National Youth Circuit Series, Round 1, Bristol, 3rd April
• Youth CiCLE Classic, Owston, Rutland, 17th April
• Hillingdon national series, 9th May
• North West Youth Tour National Series, day one only - TT and Road Stage, Blackpool, 28th May
Selection will be made by a panel chaired by the Performance Manager, Olympic Talent Programme, Gary Coltman (Email garycoltman@britishcycling.org.uk), during the week commencing 30 May 2011. Selections will be made based on the following criteria that shall constitute the ‘performance' for the purpose of selection:
• Attacking riding - ability to make repeated efforts.
• Bike handling ability - cornering skills etc
• Finish position
• Tactical awareness
The selectors will consider performances in each individual event in it's own right, taking into account the above key selection points. An accumulative or average scoring / points system from all events shall NOT be used for selection.
