UCI 2010 World Road Championships

For the first time in its history, Australia is hosting the UCI World Road Titles, the biggest event since the Sydney Olympics in 2000. In Melbourne for the Championships is a very competitive British team lead by the likes of multi Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish, Olympic Champion Nicole Cooke and one of the seasons most succesful British riders in the Women's peloton, Emma Pooley (click for the full team).

Day-by-Day Reports

Day 1: Under 23 & Women's Time Trials (Sep 29)
Great Britain’s Emma Pooley has won the Women’s World Time Trial Title in Geelong (Australia), finishing 15 seconds clear of German rider Judith Ardnt and New Zealand’s Linda Melanie Villumsen.  Report, Results & Images

Day 2: Elite Men Time Trial (Sept 30)
Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland has won a record breaking fourth World Men’s Time Trial title ahead of Britain’s David Millar who rode the time trial of his life to take the silver with Tony Martin of Germany in third.   Report, Results & Images

Day 3: Under 23 Men Road Race (Oct 1)
Michael Matthews from Australia is the 2010 World Under 23 Road Race Champion after the 45 riders left at the front after 100 miles sprinted for the finish line in Geelong. Matthews finished well clear of John Degenkolb (Germany, Silver) and Taylor Phinney (USA) & Guillaume Boivin (Canada) who shared the bronze medal. Great Britain’s Luke Rowe was 11th.  Report, Results & Images

Day 4: Elite Women Road Race (Oct 2)

In one of the most thrilling finishes ever, Britain was denied a Gold medal in the final metres when Olympic Champion Nicole Cooke and Judith Arndt were caught by the peloton in the final 20 metres of the race. Giorgia Bronzini wins from Vos and Johansson.  Report, Results & Images

Day 5: Elite Men Road Race (Oct 3)
At the end of what was the most attacking race, the World Road Race Championship came down to a sprint and on the uphill finish in Geelong, a Tour de France Green Jersey winner from Norway made no mistake and Thor Hushovd beat Matti Breschel and Australian Allan Davis to the line.  Report, Results & Images
