Orbea-For Goodness Shakes! Road Race

Story posted August 31, 2010; Event Press Release

Rafa Rodriguez makes it four wins in a row
The first Orbea-For Goodness Shakes! Road Race took place today at East Hanningfield in Essex on what was to be a tough and challenging day for the riders. On a wearing course with some short but testing climbs and a strong wind, riders were going to need good legs today to last the course.

The race kicked off rapidly with plenty of riders keen to escape, but it wasn't until the third lap when a breakaway of five riders including the on-form Daniel Kogan (Orbea-FGS!), Alex Higham (WyndyMilla), Richard Cartland (Team Corley Cycles), Sam Parker (Team Zappi) and Llewellyn Kinch (Team GWR) stuck and started to pull away.

As legs started to tire from the wind and the rolling course, the race began to splinter and a strong group containing Rafa Rodriguez and Marcel Six (both Orbea-FGS!), Dave McLean (Frezza Pasta Montegrappa), Andy Betts (Sigma Sport) and Ashley Cox (Team Corley Cycles) escaped on the climb of Radar Hill and began to work their way up to the lead group.

By the time the lead group left Bicknacre, the two groups had merged and the ten man lead group started to work hard to keep the bunch at bay, managing to pull out a two and a half minute gap as the race reached Radar Hill for the penultimate time. Here, Rafa Rodriguez launched a stinging attack at the foot of the climb, quickly gapping the group and by the time he had reached the line and the bell, he already had a 15 second lead.

As Kogan and Six played the perfect team mates, Rodriguez drove on and increased his advantage at the finish line to nearly a minute, taking what was a fantastic solo victory. Marcel Six made it an Orbea-FGS! 1-2 as he lead the breakaway home for second place ahead of Ashley Cox.
