Team Series Win for Marianne Britten

Marianne Britten (Max Gear RT) won the latest round of the Women's Team Race Series held on the Darley Moor circuit, again well organised by Arthur Gamble and his Ashfield RC team. Britten narrowly missed a crashing Janet Birkmyre in the final 50 metres. Janet has been a previous winner at Darley and looked a sure bet for a repeat win when perhaps a touch of wheels brought her down, fortunately without serious injury.
These pair were two metres in the lead at this point so the main bunch was able to skirt around Janet with junior Hannah Walker taking a well judged second place with Amelia Cambridge (Impsport team A) in 3rd place.
A very disappointingly small field of just 35 riders lined up to face the 55 kilometres of the always difficult Darley Moor circuit and it was a fast pace from the start with the first break going after just 6 kilometres when Alice Barnes (Motorpoint) and Emily Bagnall (Surrey League) clipped off the front.
Although that was short lived, Emily was to be involved in several such breaks and was the most active rider on the day. After 13 kilometres covered and it was Iona Sewell (Squadra Donne/Shutt VR/Bikefood) attacking but she was also caught; a few kilometres later and Sarah Byrne (Team Wannabies) was on the attack which she was to hold for a full three laps until again she was brought back.
Three laps to go and Emily Bagnall (Surrey League) was striking out at the front with team mate Rachel Pryzbyiski They led by 10 seconds before being absorbed by the vigilant bunch. However, Emily was not yet finished as she went away again this time with fellow Surrey Leaguer, Lise Soerrensen, but with the final lap approaching, the bunch snaffled them up.
The riders came around the final corner, lining up for the finish when Marriane Britten led Janet Birkmyre with a small gap over the bunch when the crash happened but thankfully everyone managed to swerve around to finish a very good race.
