Story Begins for Shred Classic Bicycle Race
Story posted July 19, 2010
The Shred Classic is taking place on Wednesday 25th August and is a city centre criterium taking in some of the most historic sights of Plymouth's coastal heritage including the infamous Plymouth Hoe. The race should be pretty historic in itself as it will be the first time a city centre race has come to Plymouth for over a decade.
Event organiser Steve Toze said "At Shred we love Plymouth and we love to race bikes so bringing a bike race to our city centre is a fantastic opportunity for us. Plymouth City Council have been amazing to step in and cover the costs of the closed circuit whilst other local businesses have put up prizes and cash to help make the event happen."
Speaking on his decision to make the event a purely amateur race he said "The whole point of the event is not to mimic the Tour Series and try to get pro cyclists down to the city. The idea is create a really strong community feel around the event with local riders, local businesses and hopefully plenty of local people out to support them. The region's top 2/3/4 category cyclists are clearly up to the job of creating a close, fun and fast event that will give the people of Plymouth and tourists something to enjoy on a summer evening".
With only 80 or so places in the event, entries are filling up quickly. With half a dozen sprint bonus prizes during the event and a post race party at the nearby B-Bar it is set to be great evening in the city of Plymouth.
