Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's Youth League 12

Story posted July 10, 2010; by Dot Tilbury

Strong winds and a heavily overcast sky failed to deter the 258 competitors who turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 12 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league.

Making light of the difficult conditions, Sophia Littlewood outsprinted Harvey Coole for her second successive victory in the novices class. Joel Garrett overcame Mia Littlewood and Ryan Blair for third, with Sam Cunningham edging ahead of Harry Callin, Amy Quayle and Ryan Edwards to claim sixth place. Emma Stratford completed the top ten.

In the born 2005 & later age group Harry Kneen powered away from the field to score his eighth win of the season and further strengthen his bid for the overall honours. Niall Colquitt and Mairi Harrison were a safe second and third ahead of Luke Saunders, who held off the fast finishing Nathan Cannell for fourth. Zachary Dowson kept a chasing group of seven riders at bay to secure the final place on the top six leader board.

Dillon Dowson had the upper hand over Zac Walker in the dash for the line at the end of the born 2004 event. Ralf Holden pipped James Devereau for third and Cameron Dudley led twin brother Joshua home for fifth. Nathan Slack beat Joshua Kelly and Ben Boyle to the line for seventh, with top girl Mia Worthington just behind in tenth spot.

Jake Wilson went out on his own in the born 2003 category and stayed clear to the finish. Percy Hampton broke away from from a chasing group of four riders to grab second and Jonty Bregazzi outgunned Thomas Skillicorn in the dash for third. Matthew Black got past Jack Christian in the final few metres to snatch fifth and Ryan Quirk outgunned Darcy Cain, Jack Collister and Ben Grainger in the battle for seventh.

British national series leader Charlie Gibson forged ahead of the field in the born 2002 race and, despite a troublesome headwind on certain sections of the course, maintained his advantage to the finish. Will Corkill was not that far behind in a comfortable second place and James Harrison beat Aaron Lund for third. Nicholas Kissack and Blae Cain featured  strongly in the tussle for the final place on the podium, but had to settle for fifth and sixth places after dropping off the pace on the final lap. Wilfy Kermode was a lonely seventh and Corrin Leeming took the bunch sprint for eighth.

Controlling the race from the front, Max Walker notched up another impressive solo victory in the born 2001 class. Tyler Cain got away from Tosh Teare and Adam Scarffe on the final lap to secure second place and Juan Kneen came home on his own for fifth. Emma Draper took the girls' prize in sixth spot.

A leading group of six riders stayed at the head of the born 2000 event until the final lap when Luke Murray and Ben Christian rode clear to grab the top two places. Thomas Bostock outgunned Sam Batey for third and Adam Kelly led Joseph Corkish in for fifth. Chloe Macdonald was the first girl in 12th spot.

In the born 1999-97 grouping Matthew Draper took the honours ahead of Phoebe Ferguson and Sam Mills. Newcomer Ryan Taylor did well to finish tenth on his debut.

With few riders willing to commit themselves in the strong wind, the under 10 racing bike four lapper was a very cagey affair. William Draper eventually came out on top ahead of Charlie Gibson, Thomas Bostock, Luke Murray, Max Walker and Sam Batey.

Owen Dudley led fellow breakaway partners Matthew Draper, Michael Moss and Conor Davies over the line to collect maximum points in the under 12 racing bikes. Kaitlin Slack was the best girl in a very good ninth place and Will Quirk was an impressive 11th in his maiden outing on a pukka racing bike.

Jake Kelly won the under 16 racing bikes in a tight sprint finish with Alex Haddock, Nicholas Corlett and Joshua Knights. Jamie Dudley secured the under 14's award in fifth spot and Anna Christian was the leading girl in tenth place.
