Australian World Champions team up at the Edinburgh Nocturne
Garmin Transitions pro Cameron Meyer will be one of the star attractions when the second edition of the Edinburgh Nocturne takes place on July 3rd. The Nocturne series that kicks off with the HTC Smithfield Nocturne later this month, is a brilliant urban cycling event that combines the cream of British and continental riders in top-class racing while allowing commuters to take part in the folding bike race on the same course.
Meyer is the first Pro rider to confirm his attendance for the Edinburgh event and will be aiming to continue his great form at the Grassmarket after helping his Garmin team-mate David Millar to victory last year. “I had a fantastic time in Edinburgh last year especially helping Dave take a home victory” Meyer said. “I loved the course and the atmosphere of the Nocturne so can’t wait to get back and race.”
With a strong performance at the Giro d’Italia last month and victory in the Track World Championships Points Race earlier in the year, Meyer will start as one of the favourites. “Cameron brings tremendous calibre to the event so we are delighted to welcome him back” said James Pope of Face Partnership. “He’ll have some good form following the Giro and his talent on the track makes him well suited to crit racing - the crowds can expect plenty of entertainment.”
With Millar lining up on the Tour de France start line on 3rd July, Meyer will be joined this time by fellow Australian and Junior World Champion Luke Durbridge. Durbridge stormed to victory in the road time trial at the Junior World Championships last year and Meyer is confident of his chances in Edinburgh. “Luke is an exceptional talent” he commented. “He will fly on this course and I'm actually scared of how well he would go on it. The top British riders are going to be strong so we’ll work together to go for the win.”
The Elite Criterium will be the finale of a packed day of cycling entertainment which will begin with coverage of the Tour de France prologue shown live on a big screen in the Grassmarket. The event is free to attend with several of the races also open to the public. For more information got to www.edinburghnocturne.com

HTC Sponsors the Smithfield Nocturne
The award-winning Smithfield Nocturne series of elite cycle races has confirmed HTC, a global designer of smartphones, as the 2010 headline sponsor. The HTC Smithfield Nocturne will take place on Saturday 19th June 2010 around Smithfield Market in the heart of the City of London. Now in its fourth year, the event attracts an audience of 10,000 spectators with races like the Folding Bike Race and the Fixed Longest Skid.
“Cycling is the perfect sport to align with the values of the HTC brand,” says Florian Seiche, Vice President, HTC EMEA. “We are pleased to be able to be able to support such an innovative festival of cycling which celebrates both the high performance of the elite competitors as well as the more fun and friendly aspects of the sport.”
HTC has become known for the unique user experience it provides through the design of its wide portfolio of mobile phones. A partnership with the Smithfield Nocturne is a logical move for HTC, a company with innovation at its centre.
“HTC is an exciting brand which will help us make the 2010 Smithfield Nocturne the most exciting event to date,” said Face Partnership Managing Director, James Pope. “We are looking forward to working together to enhance the spectator experience and bring some top riders to the streets of the City of London.”
The Elite Criterium will be the highlight of a packed race programme which will also include feature the City of London Team Challenge and a special Architect and Developer Race which is linked to the London Festival of Architecture that also launches on Saturday 19th June 2010.
The Smithfield Nocturne is free to attend and is also supported by the City of London.
