Team Kuota - Road CC visited Chester this week (11 May) to launch the 2010 Halfords Tour Series cycle race. Council Leader Cllr Mike Jones and Cllr Richard Short, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation welcomed Team Kuota – Road CC, Chester’s adopted team, to the city for the exciting national cycling event due to be held in Chester on Monday 21 June 2010.
Chester is hoping for crowds of over 10,000 lining the 1.3km city centre circuit. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come along and support the cities adopted team. Team Kuota - Road CC are led by the experienced duo of an ex-professional rider Eddie White and Cherie Pridham who competed in the Tour de France Feminin seven times.
The riders appearing in Chester included ‘Flying Dutchman’ Jeroen Janssen, one of the fastest riders in the 2009 Tour Series who also won two rounds of the Elite Circuit Race Series to prove his speed. He was joined by another Dutchman, former speed skater Jefte de Bruin, who took 11 victories in his home country last year.
Jon Mozley, former under 23 criterion champion, another up and coming young British rider naturally suited to sprinting and criteriums, Dan Davies, former British under 23 time trial champion and the very promising Matt Bailey (18), a member of the GB Olympic Development Squad joined the line up. Said Team Director, Cherie Pridham "We are excited about coming to race the ninth leg of the Tour Series in Chester. The fantastic historical setting with cobble streets and a tight course make for thrilling racing."
Team Kuoto – Racing CC also includes in its squad North West riders David McGowan from Liverpool and Andy Tinsdley from Burscough. There will be ten teams competing in the televised event around 10 city circuits across the country. The first race at Canary Wharf is on 25 May with Chester hosting the penultimate race Monday 21st June.
