Thoresby Park Circuit Races Round 2

The second round of events at Thoresby Park took place on Saturday 24th April 2010 supported by DiscoverCycling.com and once again the Park was bathed in sunshine. Despite the absence of last weeks winners, there was some quality racing on display by the young riders as the Under 16’s were fighting out final selections for the North West Youth Tour. Two strong performances by Ben Green (Sportscity Velo) and Keiron Tennyson (Heanor Clarion), who went away together in both events, saw them secure the final places in the East Midlands Team, alongside Sam Lowe (Raleigh RT) and Alex Minting (Planet X). 

Ben took the win in the first race from Keiron in a sprint finish. Adam De Smit (V C Lincoln) made a brave attack from the chase group with half a lap to go and took 3rd. In the second event, Ben led in to the final 200m with Keiron on his wheel. Seizing the opportunity, Keiron kicked first and drew level with Ben as they approached the final right hand corner with 100m to go. Right on the apex, Ben dropped his chain, Keiron narrowly avoided him and rode clear to take the win and Ben was forced to run to the line with his bike to claim second ahead of the fast closing chasers led home by Sam Broughton (Leicestershire RC). Charlotte Broughton (Leicestershire RC) rode very impressively in both events to finish as the leading girl, despite still being 12 years old.

Under 12
The Under 12’s events were equally hard fought with an interesting tactical battle developing between Scott Hookway (Sherwood CC) and Elliott Dudley (Sherwood Pines Cycles), with Scott taking the honours in both events. The Go-Race event featured relatives of the Youth riders and gave the adults first hand experience of how tough this picturesque new circuit is. Ben Green’s brother Dan won both events from Harry Crew’s Dad Jim.
