There was a good turnout of 266 competitors at the NSC last Tuesday night for the opening round of the Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's 2010 youth league.

In the novices class Edward Teare attacked from the gun and was never caught. Harvey Coole got away from fellow chasers Sophia Littlewood and Sam Cunningham to claim the runners-up spot, with Mia Littlewood, Ryan Blair and Luca Moretta trailing in on their own for 5th, 6th and 7th respectively. Emma Stratford pipped Albert Kessler in the bunch sprint for eighth.
 
Aaron Christian got the better of breakaway partner Mairi Harrison in the dash for the honours in the born 2005 & later age group. Harry Kneen outgunned Daniel Kirk in the battle for third and Thomas Ross edged out Zac Dowson in the gallop for 5th. Making his intentions clear from the start, Zac Walker shot into the lead in the born 2004 category and time trialed to victory. Dillon Dowson broke free from the chasing pack to grab second place ahead of Joshua Dudley, James Devereau and Isaac Kirk. The girls prize went to Abbie Edwards in 9th position.
 
Percy Hampton got the verdict in the born 2003 event after a close battle with Matthew Black. Jonty Bregazzi was a good third and Jake Wilson a lonely fourth in front of Jack Christian, who ousted leading girl Darcy Cain for fifth. In the born 2002 three lapper, Charlie Gibson made a successful solo bid for glory, extending his lead all the way to the finish. Glen Vine's Will Corkill was a safe second and Aaron Lund held off the fast finishing James Harrison to secure the final podium position. Blae Cain was the top girl in fifth spot and Jack Whitelegg got the better of Alistair Flint, Caitlin Christian and Sam Corlett for sixth.
 
A first lap attack earned Max Walker maximum points in the born 2001 class. Tyler Cain made a determined effort to bridge the gap to the leader but in the end had to settle for second place. Cullen Gell beat Conor Gelling to the line for third and Chloe Crellin stayed clear of Juan Kneen for fifth.
 
Six riders contested the finish of the born 2000 race, with Luke Murray having too much speed for Thomas Bostock, Sam Batey, Ben Christian and Adam Kelly in the final sprint. Tom Murray crashed on the finishing straight when jostling for position but remounted to salvage sixth place. Leading from start to finish, Breeshey Cain set a blistering pace in the born 1999-97 group. Phoebe Ferguson stayed clear of the rest of the field to take second and make it a one- two for the girls. Marcus Simpson, Holly Black, Liam McCann and Kaitlin Slack completed the top six.
 
There was some exciting action in the racing bike events. Owen Dudley won the under 12's in fine style after making a lone break reminiscent of Mark Cavendish in his NSC heyday. The ever improving Michael Moss won the tussle for second from Conor Davies and Callum Clague had a great ride to finish fourth ahead of William Draper, Thomas Bostock and Dan Watterson. Ninth placed Eleanor Davies was the best girl.
 
In the under 16 racing bikes Jake Kelly won the final sprint from Alex Haddock, Nick Corlett and Josh Knights, who had the misfortune to puncture in the closing stages. Jamie Dudley was fifth and Andrew Reeday a very good sixth. Anna Christian led the girls home in tenth spot
