Lichfield City CC Youth Series 1/5

March 27, 2010; Curborough; by Richard Robotham

Excellent early season form was evident in each of the youth categories during the first event of the 2010 Youth Series being organised by Lichfield City Cycling Club at the famous Curborough motor racing sprint circuit near the historic City of Lichfield. Despite a National Youth Series event being held on the same day, the Lichfield event was very well supported with 59 riders taking part.

The Lichfield Youth Series, which is being run over five dates throughout 2010, is specifically organised for Youth Riders and the racing consists of three events starting with a time trial, followed by a distance event and then a shorter sprint race. The first day in the series was run on a dry, sunny but chilly day and good early season form would see Connor Smith (Lichfield CCC), Lewis Askey (Lichfield CCC), Tomos Owens (Mid-Shropshire Wheelers), Joe Pattison (Lyme RC) and Tom Ward (Redditch R&PCC) finish the day with a commanding lead in the U8’s, U10’s U12’s U14’s & U16’s categories (respectively).

Connor Smith (U8), Lewis Askey (U10) and Tomos Owens (U12) each scored maximum points by taking first places in each of the three races. Joe Pattison (U14) managed two wins and a second place to take the lead in his category whilst Tom Ward (U16) won his Time Trial and took second place in the next two races.
