Generation Sports and Cycles Upavon Winter Series 2010

Round 3, 23rd January 2010 | Report: Darren Clarke | Event Info

The weather conditions were kind to the third event on the Upavon series. The rain held off and the wind was not blowing too hard - in light of the first two Upavon events being snowed off, this was good news indeed.

55 riders eventually turned up which comprised of the original hard core of regulars but with plenty of new faces starting for the first time with plenty of enthusiasm and ability. A quick brief about being respectful of each others and not going to hard as the lack of available training time during the last few weeks was completely ignored and off we were again!

The familiar pattern of the National B race trying to rip each others legs off occurred again with VC St Raphael setting the pace with no Felt riders taking part this week. They soon split into three distinct groups which stayed the same throughout the race. The race ended with SImon Brooks taking the victory from Rowan Horner in the final sprint.

The Regional B really started hard, with riders shelled out from lap 1 - welcome to racing for 2010! The pace was frantic but had many attacks, which bodes well for the quality of racing for the series and the year. On the last lap all attacks came back together and the riders lined up for the sprint with Matthew Conner of Newbury RC grabbing the sprint victory from David Philips of Corinium CC second.
