Royal London 360 Youth League

18th of August, Round 18, thanks to Dot Tilbury

A strong breeze and prolonged spell of heavy drizzle made conditions difficult for the 184 competitors who signed-on at the NSC last Tuesday night for the 18th and penultimate round of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league. The rain started just after the racing got underway and persisted for the rest of the evening.

In the novices class Edward Teare made light of the strong headwind finish to notch up another fine solo victory. Chloe Comaish was a solid second and relative newcomer Ryan Blair an excellent third. The consistent Sam Cunningham took fourth ahead of a fragmented chasing group consisting of Chloe Dillon, Harvey Coole, Francesca Avery, James Scott, Oliver Wylie and Toby Wylie, who ousted Joey Magee for the final place on the top ten leader board.

Dillon Dowson rode away from the field for his fourth win in the born 2004 & later category. Cameron Dudley outsprinted brother Joshua to take the runners-up spot and Ben Boyle got the better of Cameron Hawes for fourth. Jack Sowerby headed Harry Kneen, Mia Worthington and David De Weert over the line for sixth place and William Cawte returned from a three week break to beat Mairi Harrison, Caitlin Courtie and Kiera Prentice in the gallop for tenth.

Making his race winning move on the final lap, Matthew Black came from behind to snatch the born 2003 honours from Jonty Bregazzi. Top girl Darcy Cain rode strongly for third and Oliver Williams had a solitary race in fourth place. Jack Christian got away from Thomas Skillicorn to grab fifth and Kitty Thomas did well to beat Aaron Ramsay and Tom Brennan in the battle for seventh. Hayden Breed rounded off the top ten.

Aaron Lund escaped from a leading group of four riders to record his sixth successive win in the born 2002 event. Will Corkill followed in Lund's wheel tracks to claim second and James Harrison pipped Sam Corlett for third. In one of the closest finishes of the night Jamie McCann edged out Wilfy Kermode in the dash for fifth, with Fin Samson leading the chasing pack in for seventh. Blae Cain took the girls' prize in tenth spot.

With the top spot in the overall standings still in the balance, Max Walker attacked from the gun to bag maximum points for a ninth time in the born 2001 race. Adam Scarffe kept his title hopes alive with a solid second ahead of leading girl Emma Draper, who continues to improve with every race. Matthew Flint made up ground in the closing stages to snatch fourth from fellow chasers Cameron Skehan, Juan Kneen, Jake Vance and Chloe Crellin. Ninth placed Cullen Gell made a late surge to overtake Rory Donegan.

A delighted Sam Batey finally made it to the top spot in the born 2000 class, outsprinting series leader Luke Murray for a memorable win. Tom Murray dropped Ben Christian to claim third and Joseph Corkish outgunned Adam Long and Lucas Mudie for fifth. Harry Cain led Jake Flowers and Ciara Sowerby home for eighth.

After establishing an early lead, Conor Davies time trialed his way to a clear victory in the born 1999 age group. Daniel Scarffe overcame Joseph Glover and Liam McCann in the fight for second and Abby Quirk beat Alex Cain to the line for fifth. Rachael Pearson, Cameron Honeybone and Ryan Courtie completed the score sheet.

For the second week in succession and the third time this season Laura Kinley filled the number one slot in the born 1998-96 event, outsprinting Ashley Faragher in the final dash for the line. Matthew Draper, Sophie Black and Jamie Faragher trailed in separately to fill the next three places and Amy Kinley got past Ben Cunningham to take sixth.

In the under 12 racing bikes Owen Dudley continued his winning ways, notching up a seventh straight win in front of breakaway partner Joseph Haddock. Third place went to Conor Davies and Matthew Draper overhauled impressive "droppies" first timer Rory McCann to secure fourth. Breeshey Cain was the best girl in a very good sixth place.

Revelling in the wet conditions, John Sanderson scored his maiden win in the under 16 racing bikes, taking the chequered flag ahead of fellow frontrunners Jake Kelly and Alex Haddock. Nicholas Corlett took the bunch sprint for fourth and Eleanor Stokoe was the first girl in eighth position.
