White Rose Youth League Gearing Up For a Grand Finale!
The White Rose Youth League has now entered its fourth year offering weekly racing opportunities for the Under 16’s and below and numbers continue to grow. One hundred and seventeen children under the age of 16 have competed in the series so far at the Richard Dunn cycle circuit at Bradford, while eighty seven have raced at Wombwell in Barnsley.
Despite being in the midst of a deep recession, the cycling community continues to support youth racing in Yorkshire, as shown by the incredible generosity of local bike shops and clubs who have still managed to dig deep in their pockets to sponsor the league. Once again, our sponsors have remained loyal to us by funding winner’s jerseys for U10’s to U16’s, both boys and girls categories, as well as additional prize money and gifts. Following a hard nights racing at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, nine cold but willing volunteers stayed behind to help launch this year’s winner’s jerseys.
The White Rose Youth League would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers for their support which has allowed us to continue to provide competitive racing opportunities to young riders. This year, The Dave Rayner Fund is our most generous sponsor. Set up in the memory of the late Dave Rayner, the fund’s purpose is to assist riders who want to make a career out of cycling.
Polaris has generously donated all of the jerseys for the second year which has enabled us to put most of the sponsor donations back into the prize fund.
A special mention goes to Alan Edmondson who not only arranged the donation from the Dave Rayner Fund but also a generous donation from the League of Veteran Cyclists and even hosted one of his famous dinner parties and raised £130 towards the prize fund.
For all the young riders who take part in the league, it’s thanks to all the following sponsors that we are able to award prizes and jerseys for this competition. Please support them whenever you can, whether they are a shop, a club or a charity. Without them and all the volunteers who turn up every week to help, we would not be racing at all.
