Royal London 360 Isle of Man's Youth League

Round 14, 21st of July; Thanks to Dot Tilbury

A late break in last Tuesday's very wet weather allowed round 14 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league to go ahead in surprisingly good conditions. Despite the soaking that the NSC had received during the day, the perimeter track  was almost completely dry by the time the 243 competitors were ready to race.

In the novices class Alex Butterworth held off the ever improving Edward Teare to claim maximum points for an eleventh time. Top girl Chloe Comaish beat Maddie Butterworth, Francesca Avery and Chloe Dillon to the line for third, with Daniel Kirk following them in for seventh. Jayden Go was a good eighth and Harvey Coole led Sam Cunningham and Sophia Littlewood in for ninth. Oliver Corkish completed the top twelve leader board.

Dillon Dowson soloed to an impressive victory in the born 2004 & later age group. Nathan Slack edged out Isaac Kirk for the runners-up spot and Joshua Dudley rode away from brother Cameron to claim fourth. Mia Worthington was the first girl home in sixth place and James Devereau outsprinted Sophie Bolton and Mairi Harrison for seventh. Niall Colquitt was a solid tenth and Ralf Holden won his battle with Bradley Kneen and Thomas Ross for 11th.

Scoring his second win in succession, Jake Wilson set a fast pace in the born 2003 category and left  the rest of the field in his wheel tracks to fight over the minor placings. Jonty Bregazzi overtook leading girl Darcy Cain on the final lap to snatch second and Matthew Black overcame Jack Christian and impressive newcomer Joshua Jones for fifth. Tom Brennan was a lonely eighth and Matthew O'Neill headed Seth Coole and Leah Brennan home for ninth.

Aaron Lund dropped breakaway companions Fin Samson and James Harrison in the closing stages to complete a hat-trick of wins in the born 2002 event. Jamie McCann was too strong for Joshua Mills, Jack Whitelegg and Blae Cain (1st girl) in the dash for fourth, while Caitlin Christian stayed clear of Ben Haworth, Charlotte Watson and Archie Walter for eighth. Charlie Moss salvaged twelfth after recovering from a crash on the finish straight.

A blistering attack on the opening lap gave Max Walker a race winning advantage in the born 2001 class. Adam Scarffe and Tyler Cain made a spirited attempt to get across to the leader but in the end had to settle for second and third places respectively. Jake Vance overtook Juan Kneen to secure fifth and Matthew Flint got away from best girl Emma Draper to take seventh. Thomas Chatel and George Ratcliffe rounded off the top ten.

In the born 2000 race Luke Murray got the better of Sam Batey after the two had escaped from a breakaway group of four riders. Joseph Corkish pipped Thomas Bostock for third and Ben Christian finished a safe fifth ahead of chasers Adam Kelly, Lucas Mudie and Adam Long. The girls' prize went to Ciara Sowerby in 11th spot.

Conor Davies hit his rivals with a perfectly timed last lap attack to bag his eighth win in the born 1999 age group. Marcus Simpson, the winner of the previous two rounds, was second and Joseph Glover put in a late burst to overhaul Liam McCann for fourth. Kaitlin Slack was the top girl in fifth spot and Daniel Scarffe a steady sixth ahead of Alex Cain and the fast finishing Abby Quirk.

A determined Ashley Faragher was too strong for breakaway partners Laura Kinley and Matthew Draper in the gallop at the end of the born 1998-96 three lapper. Rory McCann ousted Nathan Draper for fourth and Jamie Faragher had the edge over Brandon Cain in the tussle for sixth. Amy Kinley and Samantha Crowe came in on their own to claim eighth and ninth, with Jamie Chatel doing well to grab tenth in a close fight with Breesha Quirk and Ben Cunningham.

There was a large entry for the under 12 racing bike event. A group of five riders formed an early break and stayed clear to the finish where Owen Dudley outgunned Matthew Draper, Victoria Kinrade (1st girl), Joseph Haddock and Michael Moss in the final dash for the line. Dan Watterson rode well for sixth and Conor Davies was the best under 14 rider in seventh place. Sam Batey was an impressive 15th in his first outing in the "droppies" class.

Jake Kelly instigated the race winning move in the under 16 racing bikes. Thomas Mazzone and George Doyle joined him at the front and together the trio built up a sizable lead. Eventually, Mazzone and Doyle broke free from Kelly and went on to contest the final sprint which Mazzone won. Kelly was third, Nicholas Corlett fourth and Leon Mazzone fifth one place in front of the first girl Anna Christian.
