Barras Sprints to Stokesley Win

Fifty-four riders lined up for the 34th Mike Binks Memorial at Stokesley. The sky, unusually for the event was overcast, and there were some showers during the race, which made conditions a little tricky.

The first significant action came after just 3 miles, when a crash ended the day for 3 riders - luckily none of them required medical treatment. After 12 miles, a group of 3 riders had built up a small gap over the main field. These riders were Darren Tiffen, (Probikekit.com) Daniel Smith (Velo29) and Alistair Kay (York Cycleworks).

This was the start of the race winning move as another 12 riders moved across and the resultant group steadily pulled away from the bunch. A number of attacks were made to try and split the 15 riders, chiefly by Alistair Kay, but it was all to no avail.

The uphill finishing sprint saw Tom Barras easily winning by 5 bike lengths from last year's winner Matthew Kipling. Tom's win marked a unique double as his father Sid won the event back in1981.
