Guide: Six British teams set for second Velothon Wales

Six British teams will form part of the line-up for the second Velothon Wales race on Sunday 22 May.

ONE Pro Cycling, NFTO, Team Raleigh, Madison Genesis, Pedal Heaven and JLT Condor will field six-man teams to race over the 174km course, taking in 2284m of climbing.

Verva Activejet Pro Cycling Team, Parkhotel Valkenburg and Stradalli-Bike Aid are among the other teams set for the UCI 1.1 classified race.

Ones to watch

UCI Pro Continental team ONE Pro Cycling include the experience of Yanto Barker and Marcin Bialoblocki, who are no strangers to the British roads from their time in the Premier Calendar and Spring Cup series.

Motorpoint Spring Cup Series winner Adria Moreno rides for Team Raleigh while Lincoln Grand Prix winner Tom Stewart is in the Madison Genesis squad.

NFTO dominated the Motorpoint Spring Cup Series team standings, leading from start to finish, and they include Ian Bibby and Edmund Bradbury.

Bibby won two of the five races in the series - the Manx International Grand Prix and the Wiltshire Grand Prix - while Bradbury soloed to victory at the Chorley Grand Prix.

Course

Starting at 12.40pm in Cardiff, riders will take on multiple laps of both the Tumble and Caerphilly Mountain on a route otherwise the same as the Velothon Sportive earlier in the day.

After 174km, the peloton returns to the centre of Cardiff for the finish.

Before the professional race, up to 18,000 riders will ride in a 140km closed-road sportive taking in stunning scenery as well as climbs of the Tumble and Caerphilly Mountain.

British Cycling Youth Circuit Series

The third round of the British Cycling National Youth Circuit Series sees 290 youth cyclists compete in the Welsh capital on Saturday.

Maindy Flyers Youth Cycling Club is hosting events in the centre of Cardiff as part of the Velothon Wales weekend.

The 1.2km course is a closed circuit taking riders around Cardiff’s civic centre passing Alexander Gardens, City Hall and the National Museum of Wales.
