Rydale Rumble Hits the Spot!
20 August 2009
Organiser Bob Howden has recieved some cracking feedback after the recent Rydale Rumble sportive event. A really tough event in uncompromising road cycling terrain on the North York Moors, it is rapidly aquiring the reputation of being one of the UK's leading events.
Here's just a small selection of the riders' comments:
Having only taken up cycling 16 months ago and only having trained in and around London (save for two 2-day rides on the Continent), the hills were always going to hurt on a double chainring. I confess that during the ride I had to stop on Church House and Chimney Banks, but I went back yesterday and did both of them. I only wish I lived close enough to train over the Moors on a regular basis, rather than having to be in London for work. One of the lads who came up from London and did the Rumble is now telling such tales of brutal climbs and terrifying descents that I can't be sure whether you'll have an army of entrants from London next year, or whether they'll be too terrified to come up.
Just a quick thank you to you and the team for an absolutely fantastically organised and thoroughly enjoyable event - I will definitely be back next year and will be spreading the word!
What a great event! My very first sportive aged 56 and I really enjoyed it. Rumble 3 was fun and I was delighted with my time, only missing Gold by less than 3 mins. I had never ridden a road bike until a few months ago but I prepared for the event fairly thoroughly using a Cycling Plus training programme and it worked out very well.
Many thanks to you and the volunteers for organising this event. The signing and feeding stations were superb. The course was tough (very tough!) but the signs meant getting lost was something you didn't need to worry about. Even the T Shirt was much better than the ones you normally get!
A big thanks to you and your Ryedale Rumble team for a brilliantly well organised and run event last weekend. Everything seemed to be spot on. Even the weather...... all brilliant.
It really was a pleasure to be involved in.....well that was till CASPER HILL(where did you find that brute from),anyway despite having to walk up part of that as well as part of Rosedale(at least I was able to get up boltby and blakey that's something I suppose),I will be back with a vengeance next year, this time better prepared and with a compact.
I did the Rumble1 for the first time and it was awesome. Chimney bank was cruel after 90 miles and the hill out Glaisdale came as a nasty shock too! Great sense of achievement.
My GPS data indicated I did 16503 feet of climbing yesterday, that's 5000m. If you can find an extra 896m for 2010 you can advertise the total ascent as being the same as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro which is 5896m. A friend of mine is doing this climb and planning to take 11 days - so cycling the equivalent of Kilimanjaro in 11 hours would be interesting!
Just a quick note to say well done and thank you for the excellent work done by you and your team which meant that everything went off smoothly. I cannot begin to imagine the amount of hard work that goes into the planning and execution of this event.
