Event Date: 29th - 31st August 2009
Mildenhall Cycling Club has confirmed details and the dates of its annual Mildenhall Cycling Rally.
The Rally, held at the town's Riverside Middle School, will take place over the August bank holiday weekend (Saturday 29th to Monday 31st August 2009).
The cycling festival isn't expected to see any major changes to the tried and tested line-up of events over the three days. Although according to one of the organisers, Mark Burchett, "One exciting development that has been happening over the winter, not in Suffolk, but in Essex is the restoration of the Club's competition set of rollers. Keen to see the rollers back at the Rally, Maldon and District CC offered to investigate whether they could be repaired to a sufficiently high enough standard to be used once again for competition. Their early work has been very promising and subject to any unforeseen hitches we hope to be able to announce very soon the re-introduction of Roller-Racing back at the Mildenhall Rally."
That decision will be made in time for the publication of the Rally's publicity material at Easter, at which time the event's website www.mildenhallrally.org.uk will be updated too.
Demand for the on site camping and caravan spaces is always high, with all pitches last year allocated well in advance of the Rally. For those that prefer a bit more comfort, the Mildenhall Club will be providing a list of local B&Bs, guest-houses and hotels.
The grass-track will as ever form the centrepiece of the Rally, with a full supporting list of grass-track events every day from 12 noon. Other competitive events will include an early season Cyclo-Cross, run on a Madison basis where the teams of two ride alternate laps, while especially for the under 17s there will be the ever-popular Children's Duathlon.
The Rally is once again expecting a high number of companies at the two-day Trade Show (Sunday and Monday) making it one of the biggest in the UK open to the public.
On the touring front, Suffolk DA (District Association) of the Cyclists Touring Club will be organising 100, 200 and 300km Audax Rides on the Saturday. For those that want something more relaxing, Mildenhall Cycling Club will be expanding the range of touring leaflets, it introduced so successfully in 2008.
Other attractions will include the ever-popular Cycle Jumble and Quiz Nights. Every day there will be the Children's Sports, while on the Sunday and Monday there will be the bouncy castle and face painter, both free of charge. Additionally on the Monday there will be a children's entertainer, Adam Strange, with his Magic and Puppet Shows!
