British Cycling is proud to announce the winners of its Local Cycling Heroes awards.

This summer we’ve been turning the spotlight on the unsung stars of cycling – the people who give up their time and energy to help and inspire others to get the most out of their riding. From almost a hundred nominations we received from the public, we shortlisted 24 dedicated individuals, each playing a pivotal role in their community by inspiring others to get the most out of their bike riding.

Now, after more than twelve thousand public votes were cast, the results have been counted, and the regional heroes can step forward to take a bow...

North West: Sandra Green - Sandra has led over a hundred informal bike rides for local women, encouraging them to get into cycling – and enjoy it!

Yorkshire & North East: Naz Ali - Youth Worker Naz helps under-represented groups get involved in cycling – using it to change the way people and communities are perceived.

Scotland: John McCracken - Much-loved cycle leader John has trained children and adults alike, and led numerous epic cycle challenges.

Midlands: Maryam Amatullah - Inspiring women who wouldn’t otherwise have got on a bike, Maryam challenges beliefs that cycling isn’t appropriate for women.

Central / East region: Roy Pink - Roy has repaired hundreds of bikes for local people, and his ten mile morning bike rides have become legendary.

London: Spencer Harradine - Dedicating hours a week to various volunteer roles, Spencer has encouraged scores of youngsters to try riding bikes.

Wales / South West  region: John Wheat - John volunteers his time to organise regular informal bike rides for local people in Newport of all ages and abilities.

South East: Tom Morton - When it comes to offering support and encouragement to club riders, Tom always goes the extra mile.

The winners will receive commemorative award certificates and are being invited to a VIP experience at the World Track Championships in Manchester. Watch out for more in November.
