Children's Bike Workshop at Nocturne

The Danes know a thing or two about getting people on bikes, with the Danish capital Copenhagen boasting one of the highest levels of cycling usage of any European city. As part of the Smithfield Nocturne, crack Danish cycling gurus have been drafted in to teach young children essential cycling skills. Here are the full details.

Children's Bicycle Workshop

Date: 19th June 2010
Time: 2pm - 6pm
Place: Charterhouse Street, Smithfield Market, London EC1M (Barbican or Farringdon tube)

Fun and inventive cycling games for children at all ages and their parents.

As part of London Festival of Architecture, the day is the opening of Bike Week and also coincides with Smithfield Nocturne, a day-long celebration of cycling in all its forms. Children's Bicycle Workshop will have four dedicated Danish cycle instructors to guide and teach teams of children about Danish cycling practices. Children will be encouraged through play to learn safety and new techniques on their bikes. This will include five different cycling games, which will be demonstrated in English by the Danish instructors. There will also be a folder outlining all the games, to take home.

Organisers encourage participants to bring their own bicycles and safety helmets, but there will also be a variety of bikes available at the location, lent by the London based bike-shop Velorution.

The event is organized by the Embassy of Denmark in London, the Cycling Embassy of Denmark in Copenhagen and Face Partnership.
