Explore, Escape and Enjoy: cycle Oxford's scenic trails

New group cycle rides for adult beginners and families are starting this June.

The GO Active (Get Oxfordshire Active) project and Oxford Cycle Workshop Cycle Club have joined forces to provide a series of group rides throughout the summer, aimed to encourage those who do not normally get out on their bicycles to take to the trails!

The emphasis of the rides is on fun, fitness, and exploring new picturesque parts of Oxford and the surrounding area.

The rides are open to beginner and intermediate adults and have a few attractive features we hope you will enjoy:

1. FREE pre-ride maintenance - flat tires, wonky brakes or badly-adjusted gears can really spoil a good cycle ride. Come and take advantage of free pre-ride maintenance to get your bike perfectly in tune and ready to ride

2. Beautiful planned routes - we have planned routes through Oxford's most beautiful tow paths, canals, and countryside parks

3. No lycra and no racing - these rides cater specifically for beginner to intermediate adults and families, lasting no longer than an hour and going at a gentle to moderate pace. No one will be left behind!

On top of all that, there are post-ride refreshments back at the training centre and the chance to learn more about bike maintenance, cycle training and even bicycle polo!

Adult rides (16+) will leave from the newly-opened Oxford Cycle Workshop (OCW) Training Centre on Glanville Road at 6pm every other Monday, starting Monday 15th June.

Family rides for adults and children aged 9 and over will leave from the OCW Training Centre every other Saturday at 11am starting Saturday 20th June.

Rides cost a very reasonable £1/adult with free maintenance for your first two rides. Under 16s ride for free at the Saturday family rides. Please ring or email Abbie Clare (GO Active Coordinator) to book your place on 07833 400899 oraclare@oxford.gov.uk or visit the GO Active website for information on a wide variety of opportunities to get active throughout the city this summer.
