Rachel Riley has revealed she will take part in the first British Cycling Breeze Challenge Event of the year as the countdown to the popular women-only rides begins.

Launched successfully in 2014 with more than 800 women taking part, the Breeze Challenge Events in 2015 are scheduled to take place in Lancashire (4 October) and Warwickshire (20 September), as well as visiting Windsor (23 August) and the South East for the first time.

Rachel will participate in this summer’s event in Windsor, the first of three events staged exclusively for women looking to take their cycling further, after British Cycling unveiled her as a Breeze Ambassador in June to help promote all the fun and benefits of cycling.

She will join hundreds of riders biking the 50km Breeze Challenge, and as well as cycling, the TV star will lead the ride out and offer words of encouragement to riders along the roads of Windsor.

In addition to biking at the Windsor event, Rachel will attend and support riders at the Breeze Challenge Event in Warwickshire, where she will also be on hand to offer words of encouragement to riders.

Rachel said: ”I’m proud to join British Cycling and Breeze Challenge Events as a Breeze Ambassador. Interest in cycling amongst women is really high but there are still so many more of us who could get on our bikes and take our cycling further!

"Breeze and Breeze Challenge Events are playing a major part in the progress British Cycling is making towards its target of getting one million more women cycling by 2020, and women’s cycling is becoming more popular every day.”

Stewart Kellett, Director of Recreation and Partnerships at British Cycling said: ”British Cycling’s Breeze network aims to encourage and open as many routes to female cycling participation as possible.

”Through a combination of three iconic routes, fun events, two levels of challenge riding and a great day out for all involved in riding, supporting and spectating, Breeze Challenge Events will deliver the very best organised ride experience.

"We’re delighted to welcome Rachel to the team too and look forward to hundreds of women taking part in the events.”

Breeze Challenge Events are designed to be the next leg of the journey for many women who have developed their confidence and cycling skills through Breeze rides and are looking for an exciting new challenge to train and prepare for.

Participants will have a choice of two routes at 50 kilometres or 100 kilometres and riders will be supported with feed stations and spectator hot spots, making the event a great introduction to the fun of riding more challenging distances. Meanwhile, friends and family can enjoy a festival atmosphere with fun and games available throughout the day.

Everyone who finishes the rides will receive an event goodie bag, with advice and tips on how to access the Breeze network, helping all riders continue to enjoy the fun, friends and fitness gained through cycling,.
