Ride Leadership award

Ride Leadership award

Navigation:
Home

This award trains up confident and competent recreational cyclists to lead groups on the road in a safe and enjoyable manner, set mainly in urban environments.

The assessed one-day course qualifies you to deliver guided bike rides for groups of beginner and intermediate level adults and accompanied children on roads and cycle paths.  This course will provide you with an understanding of the processes involved before, during and after a ride. You’ll have opportunities to learn and be assessed on both the theoretical and practical aspects of leading.

What the course will cover:

  • Introduction
  • Preparing to lead a ride
  • Delivering rides
  • Reviewing rides
  • Safety
  • Good leading practice/Code of Conduct

We’ll also give you branded kit, a British Cycling Ride membership, and payment for leading and assisting on rides.

In return, we expect our Ride Leaders to be flexible with their weekend availability and commit to leading guided rides for at least four weekends in the first year after your training and in subsequent years you are involved in the programme.  All rides are delivered on set routes and times specified by British Cycling (the majority of rides will take place on Sundays during the spring and summer months).

On the day, please bring:

  • Suitable clothing for cycling (and the weather)
  • Appropriate footwear
  • Your own bike/equipment
  • Your own cycling helmet
  • A bike lock
  • Lights
  • A packed lunch
  • Your passport or working permit
