William Evans and Natasha Bradley claimed the elite male and female titles at the HSBC UK National 4X Championship in an action-packed day of racing on Saturday.

On the men’s side Scott Beaumont crashed out in his semi-final moto to leave the elite race wide open, with Evans stepping up and dominating to take the 2019 title.

Evans won each of his motos on the day and took the win in the A final by a comfortable margin in the same smooth, understated style he had demonstrated all day.

Behind the winner all hell broke loose with a crash in the last few turns sending an impressive Daniel Wagstaff from second to fourth, missing out on a podium, much to the elite of Charles Currie and Connor Hudson.

This chaos was in stark contrast to the women’s elite, where Bradley qualified fastest with some style though the proline of the jump section.

She went on to win the final in comfortable fashion although this soon came to an abrupt end as she crossed the line only to crash into a hedge in her excitement.

Behind Bradley the women’s field came through in the same order as their qualifying times, with Megan Wherry in second, Courtney Abbiss third and Hannah Escott fourth.

Conditions on the course

A blistering hot day greeted the riders and spectators for the HSBC UK National 4X Championships at Afan Forest in Wales.

The weather conditions meant for a dry, dusty, and more importantly fast track for the 2019 Championships.
What they said

After the race Evans spoke when asked how it felt to be the new 4X national champion: “Awesome, I’ve been in the game for a long time and it’s a long time coming dare I say it!

“But it’s what I set out to do, I had a really good day, managed to win all my races and felt comfortable on my bike.

“I got the rewards and I’m super happy with that.”

After her win, Bradley commented: “It feels amazing, pretty good! I’ve been feeling good all day and I just made it happen, everything came together on the final run so I’m feeling good.

“I literally just couldn’t stop (after finishing), my brakes aren’t too good, I’ve got bad hayfever at the moment, I’m just dying, so it probably wasn’t a good idea!”
