Alex Metcalfe took his first win of the HSBC UK | National 4X Series while Heather Kay also celebrated a maiden victory in the women's event.

The series rolled into Gloucestershire’s Redhill Extreme course for the fourth round of seven, with the track renowned for being demanding.

Redhill would prove no different to previous years with a tough day for all on the dusty track.

Metcalfe makes his maiden mark

Metcalfe made the most of the tough conditions, with the rider who had taken the win in the two previous rounds B final riding a faultless final.

That saw him take the win from the first bend and although pushed hard by semi-final winner Charlie Currie (NX 2MTB / Truro College) he was not going to surrender the lead.

Will Evans (Orange Maloja) couldn’t make it a hat-trick of wins and had to be content with fourth place rolling in behind Connor Hudson (Kore Components) to mirror the second semi final.

Daniel Bateson took the final step of the podium after a close run race with Duncan Ferris (DMR Bikes) in the B final, Bateson, making his move coming into the tabletop to take the lead, Ferris, unable to respond.

Kay hits her stride to take the spoils

It was a debut win in the women’s race for Heather Kay, timing her run to perfection to steal the lead form Molly Dobson coming into the final bend.

Aafter a close race from the gate, Dobson, seemingly in control on the course, couldn’t respond to Kay making her move to snatch the lead for the sprint to the line.

Hannah Escott (Dirtbike School) took third and her best result of the series rolling in just ahead of Mel Nice ( Dame Cycling- Quinde IT).

Tyde D’Souza ( Dirtbike School) tied up the B final to take the final place on the podium, though the winner of rounds one and two didn’t have the best day in the Motos, but rallied to cruise through her semi final and final.

Podium place the reward for Armitage

In the junior race it was a great day out for Ben Armitage, taking his first win and podium in the series. Armitage sailed through his semi final with Fin Keogh (Dirtbike School) lining up on the gate with Oscar Powell (417 Flyupdownhill) and Matt O’Brien (Dame Cycling - Quidne IT).

Powell was always favourite to take the win and his fourth of the series but a tangle with O’Brien coming up to the tabletop saw the pair hit the dirt, the win taken out of their hands.

Armitage and Keogh attacked the bottom part of the course, Armitage just getting the better of Keogh on the run in to the finish line. Alex Piper took the win in the B final to claim the final step on the podium.
