March 25th 2012 brings the promotion of short course downhill racing to Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. Extreme Knowhow International Ltd have been working hard alongside local cycling organisations, the Forestry Commission and British Cycling to create and deliver a standalone race at the local downhill mecca that is "Stile Cop".

This is the first time this fantastic short course downhill venue has been utilised for full race activity. The objective behind the event is to create an entry level opportunity for riders new to the sport and wanting to try their hand at downhill racing, providing them with a more accessible level at which they can build skills and confidence before progressing on to higher level regional events. That said the course will still provide a challenging race for those more experienced and looking for a bit of additional activity in their race programme. The grass roots ethos behind the event will not detract in any way from its quality, which will be supported by full electronic timing on the day. Prizes will be on offer for the top placed riders, with a few spot prizes as well.

Gary Wallace from Extreme Knowhow said: "We are excited to be working with key local organisations to deliver this new event activity at a recognised mountain bike venue; and by offering racing at grass roots level, to help positively develop the structure and balance of downhill racing in the West Midlands region."

Due to the size of the venue, the field size will be limited to a maximum of 200 riders only. The entry fee for the event is £25 per rider and entry is currently available on line through the British Cycling website. If the field size is not filled in advance, entry will be available on the day, but this will be limited to 30 riders. You are advised to enter in advance to avoid disappointment on the day. Ranking points are available from this event for those with a race license.

£1 from each entry will be donated to "Chase Trails" to help support the maintenance and development of mountain bike trails at Cannock Chase and a further £1 from each entry to the "The Royal British Legion" which is Extreme Knowhow's charity of choice for 2012.

You will require a full face helmet in order to participate in this event and don’t forget to check you bar ends are plugged!
