The UK's toughest 24 hour mountain bike endurance race promises to be bigger and better than ever this year, with a record number of riders signed up for the event.
Due to overwhelming demand, the event, in its 13th year, has increased its entry capacity from 2,500 to an impressive 2,650.
More than 3,000 riders applied for the coveted places with entrants from as far afield as Switzerland, teams that have entered every year, participants that have battled life threatening illness to compete, family groups and even participants that have planned their wedding around the event.
Amongst those keen to secure their place were the Grimey Lymies who made the journey from Stoke-on-Trent to be the first on Patrick's doorstep at 12.45am, closely followed by fellow team mate and the first rider to appear throughout the night, Tin Tin.
Not to be outdone, Simon also demonstrated true Original Source Mountain Mayhem spirit driving from Surrey to the highest spot in Buxton to download his form before hand delivering it, complete with a homemade sugary treat, in order to guarantee his place!
Patrick Adams of Pacific Edge Events, owners and organisers of Original Source Mountain Mayhem, says: "The response this year has been absolutely amazing. More than 3,000 riders applied to take part. We've got lots of surprises up our sleeves and are really looking forward to welcoming the road bikers for the first time."
Needing skill and determination the course isn't for the faint-hearted. Daring novice riders, right through to seasoned participants will take part, either as solo-riders or as members of a four, five or 10 man team.
Each year sees a variety of contestants made up of professionals, charity teams, those in fancy dress and brave soloists, all contributing to making the event an exhilarating experience.
Original Source Mountain Mayhem isn't just for the bikers, a fun festival atmosphere adds to the event's appeal, which attracted over 15,000 in 2009. Family campsites, Original Source product give-aways, food tents and entertainment are all on offer to add to the carnival atmosphere. There is also a mini mayhem race for children.
Nigel Wolstenholme, Senior Brand Manager at Original Source, says: "Original Source Mountain Mayhem never disappoints. It's always a fantastic weekend with a fabulous atmosphere and this year promises to be just as good, if not better. We're proud to be part of such an iconic event."
This year also sees a new addition to the event with the arrival of a road bike course. Sponsored by the newly launched Verenti Sportive, the ride takes place on Sunday 20th June. Cyclists, if they are up for the challenge, have the choice of a 50k or 100k route, no mean feat for even the most experienced riders.
Focsa Services (UK) Ltd has also been brought in this year to ensure the event is as green as possible with facilities for recycling glass, cardboard and plastic.
Original Source Mountain Mayhem takes place at Eastnor Castle, Deer Park in Ledbury, Herefordshire from 18th - 20th June 2010 and challenges riders to compete on an intense nine mile circuit over 24 hours, pushing even the most experienced mountain bikers to the limit.
Entrants range from 18 yrs old to 59, with all hoping to complete the most circuits and scoop the ultimate prize of £4,000.
