WXC Womens Team Unveils New Kit

Posted: 16th March 2010 | Source: Joolze Dymond

As the 2010 XC racing season approaches there has been a flurry of activity behind the scenes as established XC teams sort out their line-ups and a few new teams emerge. One such team which is slightly more unusual than most has to be the WXC Mountain Bike Racing team, as this squad of 11 riders are all women.

Despite a new name and lots of new riders, this team is actually one that has been on the scene for quite a few years and has seen plenty of talented riders rise through the ranks. The team, managed by Trevor Brown and Keith Loveday back in 2004 has racked up 127 wins, 156 podiums, 252 top ten placing and one World title. Now in 2010 the team takes yet another strong step towards its goal of setting up the UK's first professional all-women mountain bike team that will, in time, be challenging for wins not just nationally but internationally as well.

A whole raft of sponsors has lined up to help the team take this step, including Weldtite, Limar helmets, Moda bikes and a lot more.

Earlier in the year, long-time supporter of women's racing in the UK, Weldtite approached the WXC team and asked if they'd like to help with a few images needed for the 2010 Weldtite catalogue. So early February at a cold and foggy Sherwood Pines, six of the team riders; Rachel Fenton, Carla Haines, Malin Tindberg, Rickie Cotter, Hollie Bettles and Katie Calvert, along with team bosses Trevor and Keith met up with Weldtite main man Chris Jenkins for a fun day in the woods.

WXC Mountain Bike Racing will now officially launch the entire team of 11 riders at the first round of the British Mountain Bike Race Series at Sherwood Pines on the 27th March. Please come along and support this fantastic team that will be promoting women's mountain bike racing both in the UK and worldwide. With this in mind the team welcomes any female rider who'd like impartial advice about riding or racing or just a bit of guidance about the whole women's racing scene to come on over and have a chat. If you're too shy take a peek at the new team website instead.
