Wiggle Super Series MTB Events

With spring in the air and British Summer Time about to begin, there’s never been a better time to get out on your bike. The surefire way to put in the miles is to enter an event which you know will motivate you to ride – and that’s where the Wiggle Super Series MTB events come in.

Brought to you by UK Cycling Events, the three MTB events are designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to just “get out and ride”. With different distances on offer at all events and free entry for under 16s, there have already been scores of entries from families, recreational riders and seasoned mountain bikers. The first event of the series is now less than a month away: the Ups and Downs on April 24 in Dorking.

Wiggle and UK Cycling Events have signed a three-year deal which will see them working together to ensure every rider has a brilliant event experience. With GPS experts Garmin on board as sponsors too, it has just been revealed these events will feature course maps, distance challenges and rider pacing.

Martin Barden, of UK Cycling Events, said:

“Riders of the Wiggle Super Series will now have the option of downloading files to their cycling GPS which, when used with the Virtual Partner feature on Garmin units, will help pace them to achieve their time target. There is a choice of ability level – gold, silver or bronze – so a rider wanting to go for a gold time will be able to download the route in gold format. As they ride, it will tell them if they are ahead or behind the average speed required to hit their desired time.”

The Ups and Downs MTB ride is based in the hills of the North Downs which provides some of the best mountain biking the South has to offer. The ride starts from the UK’s largest vineyard and offers a unique setting for an event which showcases the North Downs in all their glory. With two ride lengths on offer – 32 miles or 25 miles – riders can choose how much of a challenge they want to set themselves.

The South Downs Epic in Chichester on June 27 takes riders on some of the smoothest flowing single and double tracks this area has to offer. The 44-mile route has a little bit of everything: stunning views, challenging climbs and sweet descents. There’s a shorter option available too.

The final MTB ride of the series is the Falling Leaves on October 2. With the New Forest National Park as its backdrop, riders will be treated to breathtaking scenery as the course sweeps through the park’s quiet leafy tracks and bridleways.

Paul Bolwell, of Wiggle, says:

“Our Wiggle Super Series events are going to be superb – they’re all set in awesome venues and, as is always the case with Wiggle, the events are all about every rider enjoying being out on their bike and having a great time.”

The series is also sponsored by High5 and Eat Natural bars, so riders can rest assured feed stations will be well stocked. There will also be free bike wash facilities and cleaning products - courtesy of sponsors Mobi and Fenwicks - plus tarmac parking, well-marked courses, mechanical support, chip timing, event photography, toilets, hot drinks and homemade cakes.
