Abi Smith (RFDA) prevailed in round two of the Junior Women's Road Series in a sprint finish with series leader Anna Shackley (Team 22) after being in a two-up breakaway for most of the race.

With the severity of the hill climb naturally breaking up the field, three riders found themselves out ahead after five laps of the gruelling circuit as the field of 25 gradually reduced with Katie Scott joining Smith and Shackley.

Three became two as Scott started to feel the pace and dropped back, leaving Smith and Shackley to take turns on the front opening up a commanding lead, the temperature increased to add to the difficulty.

By the time the two leaders reached the top of the final ascent they had over a minute on Katie Scott in third place and they jostled for position in a spint off down the final straight.

It was Smith who crossed the line a bike's length ahead to take victory.
