Alice joined the Great Britain Cycling Team in 2011 as as part of the mountain bike cross-country programme.
At the 2013 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in South Africa, Barnes finished seventh in her final year in the junior women's category.
At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Barnes finished fifth for Team England at the cross-country mountain bike race, one place behind teammate Annie Last.
Alice scored her career-best result at the fourth round of the UCI Moutain Bike World Cup series in Mont St Anne, Canada, winning the bronze medal in the under-23 race.
More recently, Alice has made the transition to road cycling and finished second in back-to-back British Cycling National Road Race Championships - claiming the under-23 women's title in both 2015 and 2016 in the process.
Barnes, a member of the Great Britain Cycling Team Olympic Podium Programme, was also part of the team that delivered Lizzie Deignan to a world title at the 2015 UCI Road World Championships in Richmond, Virginia, USA.
She reached a podium herself in 2017, taking bronze in a bunch sprint finish in the under-23 women's race at the 2017 UEC Road European Championships in Denmark.
