About Steve

Steve began his cycling career on the track and enjoyed great success. He won an Olympic silver medal in the team pursuit in Athens in 2004, world championship gold in the same event in 2005 in Los Angeles and Commonwelath Games gold in 2006, also in the team pursuit.

In 2007, he turned to road racing on the UCI WorldTour.

In 2011, Steve was part of the British team who helped Mark Cavendish win the world championships in Copenhagen and has since been a consistent presence for the Great Britain Cycling Team at Road World Championships.

Known as a selfless team player, Cummings had his reward in 2015 with a memorable Tour de France stage win on stage 14 from Rodez to Mende before repeating the trick with a thrilling solo attack on stage seven in 2016 - taking the win in the race from L'Isle Jourdain to Lac de Payolle.

Cummings represented his country at the 2016 Olympic Games before taking the most important stage race victory of his career in winning the 2016 Tour of Britain, becoming just the second British rider to win the race in its current format.
