About Phil

Having originally represented Germany, Phil, whose father is British, moved to Great Britain and joined British Cycling’s Olympic Academy Programme in 2010.

Two years later Phil established himself as man one in the team sprint and in 2012 won gold for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Racing alongside Jason Kenny and Sir Chris Hoy, the world record breaking ride was completed in 42.6 seconds.

Following the Olympic Games, Phil went on to win his first UCI Track Cycling World Cup medal, winning silver in the team sprint alongside Jason Kenny and Ed Clancy.

In the 2013 New Year’s Honours, Phil was awarded an MBE for his services to cycling.

At the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester in November 2013, Phil (with Jason Kenny and Matt Crampton) won the bronze medal in the team sprint.

At the second round of the 2013 UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Mexico, Phil, Jason Kenny and Kian Emadi set a team sprint world record time of 42.339 seconds.

However, the record was immediately superseded by the German team, posting 41.871 seconds.

In 2014, Phil won the silver medal in the team sprint at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow alongside English teammates Jason Kenny and Kian Emadi. At the opening round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup series Phil, along with Jason and Callum Skinner, won the gold medal in the team sprint.
