About Mark

A product of British Cycling’s Great Britain Cycling Team Academy Programme, Mark Cavendish is now one of the world's most recognizable sportsmen.

Cavendish is a two-time world champion on the track, winning gold in the Madison at the 2005 UCI Track Cycling World Championships with Rob Hayles and again in 2008 with Bradley Wiggins.

Cavendish and Wiggins finshed ninth in the Madison at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

On the road, he took Commonwealth Games gold in 2006 in the scratch race.

In 2011, Mark became the first ever British rider to win the green jersey in the Tour de France.

Also in 2011, Mark became the first British male to win the senior UCI Road World Championship title since Tom Simpson in 1965.

On the 30 November 2011, Mark was awarded the MBE for his services to the sport, and on the 22 December he was crowned as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

In 2012, Cavendish won the British Cycling National Road Race Championship men's title in Glasgow.

Mark has won the points jersey in all three Grand Tours, completing the collection in 2013 at the Giro d'Italia. In 2014, Mark crashed out of the Tour de France in stage one (Leeds to Harrogate) and was unable to start stage 2 due to his injuries.
