Born in Devauden, Monmouthshire, Lewis was inspired to take up track cycling after watching sprint legend Jason Queally train at Newport Velodrome.
Having risen through the ranks of British Cycling's Olympic Development and Academy Programmes, he was accepted on to the Podium Sprint Programme in April 2013.
Lewis won his first medals at world cup level in the final round of the 2013/14 series, where he came home from Guadalajara with two bronze medals from the team sprint and the keirin.
