Lauren's Profile

From Forres, Scotland, Lauren Bell started her sporting life in athletics and was a junior Scottish champion sprinter, but it wasn’t until successfully transferring to join the British Cycling team that she truly found her stride. In her short career to date, 24-year-old Bell has won six international medals including a team sprint silver on her home track at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow.

Bell made herself known on the track in 2020, storming to the top of the podium twice to take national titles in the 500m time-trial and the keirin at the 2020 British National Track Championships. In the same event, she took the bronze medal in both women’s sprint and team sprint with fellow Scot Ellie Stone.

Bell took her first international medal in the team sprint alongside Blaine Ridge-Davies and Emma Finucane, a silver at the UEC Under-23 and Junior European Track Championships, the following year.

2022 was a breakout year for Bell, making her Commonwealth Games debut for Team Scotland where she put down impressive performances across the sprint events. This was swiftly followed by Bell’s first ever international elite medal at the UCI Track World Championships in Paris, taking a bronze medal in the team sprint alongside Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane.

Women's team sprint 2023 UCI Track Cycling Championships

2023 saw more positive results, both domestically and internationally with two national championships medals, a world cup bronze and a European silver, both in the team sprint. The season rounded out with success at the first ever multi-discipline world championships, held in Glasgow. Bell was part of the trio to take the team sprint silver in a nail-biting, world-record breaking final in which they missed out to the Germans by hundredths of a second; a performance that put the British team firmly in the running for the upcoming Olympic Games.

The 2024 Olympic year has started confidently for Bell who topped the podium as part of the team sprint at the first Track Nations Cup of the year, the first time a British team has done so in 11 years.
