Katie's Profile

As a swimmer in her youth, Katie took up cycling competitively in 2011 on the grass track. At the British National Track Championships in 2013, Katie won the bronze medal in the individual pursuit behind Laura Trott and Dani King and this was enough to catch the eyes of the Great Britain coaches.

Katie was called up to ride at the European Track Championships in Apeldoorn in the new format four-kilometre/four-woman pursuit – the squad broke the world record in both the qualifying and the finals round as well as winning the gold medal.

In the first round of the world cup series, Archibald rode for her trade team and targeted the individual events, coming away with two more medals. She was reunited with her Great Britain team mates for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Mexico where again the foursome broke the world records in both qualifying and the finals.

Just months after being accepted onto the British Cycling programme, Archibald became world champion in 2014 in the team pursuit, along with teammates Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and Elinor Barker in Colombia.

At the 2014 Commonweath Games in Glasgow, Katie won the bronze medal for Scotland, behind her Great Britain team mates Laura Trott (Gold - England) and Elinor Barker (Wales). Katie became double European champion in 2014, winning both the team pursuit and the individual pursuit events.

Katie rode the qualifying round of the team pursuit at the World Cup in Mexico, before being replaced by Amy Roberts in the final so she could focus on the omnium event in which she placed 17th overall. At the second round in London, Katie was victorious in the team pursuit.

Great Britain's run of victories in the team pursuit ended at the 2015 World Championships in Paris when Katie and the team rode to silver medal behind the Australian team, who also broke the world record in the event.

At the 2015 Under-23 UEC European Track Championships in Athens, Katie won the silver medal in the individual pursuit.

Katie defended her European titles in Switzerland in October 2015, adding the elimination race to claim a hat-trick of European golds.

She followed that up with bronze at the opening round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cali in extraordinary circumstances in October, as the trio of Archibald, Joanna Rowsell Shand and Ciara Horne defeated the Chinese quartet despite Elinor Barker's immediate withdrawal due to illness.
