Joe's Profile

Biography

The Portsmouth cyclist first came to prominence in the summer of 2016 as, alongside Jack Carlin and the Olympic-bound Ryan Owens, he won European team sprint gold at the UEC Junior and Under-23 Track European Championships in Aigle, Switzerland.

Truman followed that up with bronze in the 1km time trial - performances that earned him selection for the elite UEC European Track Championships in France that October.

Again, alongside Carlin and Owens, the trio won silver in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines at their first ever senior European championships.

Golden glory

Truman, Carlin and Owens earned selection for the opening rounds of the 2016/17 UCI Track Cycling World Cup and took to the track in front of a passionate home crowd in the season opener in Glasgow.

Spurred on by the home crowd, the British riders won gold - and repeated the trick a week later at the second round of the world cup in Apeldoorn.

The trio were all selected for their first elite UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Hong Kong in April 2017, missing out on a medal ride in the team sprint by less than two-hundredths of a second.

Truman was back on the podium again at the 2017 UEC Junior and Under-23 Track European Championships - winning the team sprint alongside Carlin and Owens before taking silver in the 1km time trial and bronze in the sprint in Portugal.

As the 2017/18 world cup season got underway, Truman earned another medal, winning bronze in the team sprint with Carlin and Owens in the season opener in Pruszkow, Poland before missing out on the podium in Manchester with a fourth placed team sprint finish.

At his second world championships, Truman won his first UCI Track Cycling World Championships medal - picking up silver as part of a five-man team sprint squad alongside Jason Kenny, Phil Hindes, Carlin and Owens.

The following month, Truman was selected for his first-ever Commonwealth Games, lining up alongside Hindes and Owens in the team sprint - with the trio winning silver in Australia.

In the past two years, Truman has spent time at Japan's keirin school, honing his craft in that particular sprint discipline.
