Ian began cycling for fun when he was 11 years old and in 2006 he was accepted onto the British Cycling Olympic Academy Programme where he won gold in the team pursuit at the European track championships.
Ian turned professional on the road in 2008 with the Belgian Landbouwkrediet team and in 2010 he joined Team Sky where he rides as a rouleur and is beginning to specialise in the Classics races.
In 2011, Ian was part of the eight-man team who helped lead Mark Cavendish to victory at the UCI Road World Championships in Copenhagen.
Ian was selected to represent Great Britain again in the London Olympics to support Mark Cavendish and regularly represents Great Britain on the road at World Championships. He was also part of the Team Sky team that supported Chris Froome to his two Tour de France victories in 2013 and 2015.
