Ciara's Profile

About Ciara

Ciara started her sporting career in swimming, aged just seven years old, but a shoulder injury led her to try out triathlon.

After a few years competing, it was noted that Ciara had made significant improvements in her cycling and this has become her focus since 2009.

Since then, Ciara has enjoyed wins both domestically and internationally on both the road and track, including podium rides at world cup level in the team pursuit riding for the Welsh team Team USN.

In 2014, Ciara was accepted onto the Olympic Podium Programme and instantly made her mark by becoming European champion in the team pursuit.

She followed that up a couple of weeks later by winning the gold medal in the team pursuit at the opening round of the 2014/15 World Cup series in Mexico and she did the same again at the second round of the World Cup series in London in December 2014.

Horne went on to retain her European team pursuit title in 2015, also taking bronze in the individual event in Grenchen, Switzerland, before claiming bronze in the team event at the first round of the 2015/16 UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cali, Colombia. At the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, Ciara and the team pursuit squad fought back to win the bronze medal after a dissatisfactory qualifying ride saw them qualify with the fifth fastest time.
