About Becky

Double world champion in 2013, Becky James began cycling aged 11 at an afternoon club at her school.

In 2007 she was accepted onto British Cycling’s Olympic Development Programme aged 15 and by 2009, James returned from the UCI World Junior Track Cycling Championships with two world titles (sprint and keirin) to her name, as well as setting a world record for the 200m time-trial (11.093 seconds).

Becky’s progress continued as she moved from junior to senior competition, winning two Commonwealth Games medals for Wales in 2010.

James’ first world cup medal came for the keirin in 2011 and in 2012 she was a reserve for Team GB at the Olympic Games.

Following the retirement of Victoria Pendleton, James confirmed herself as Britain’s number one sprinter in the 2012/13 season.

Winning two medals at the Glasgow world cup, Becky’s greatest success followed at the 2013 UCI Track Cycling World Championships where she became the first Britain to win four medals at the event.

James became world champion for sprint and keirin in her most successful season, having already won bronze in the team sprint and 500m time trial.

Further medals came in the 2013/14 UCI Track Cycling World Cup series, however James failed to defend her titles at the 2014 world championships, leaving with bronze medals from the team sprint and keirin.
