Event Overview

Bodmin Adventure Cross

The Bodmin Adventure Cross offers a weekend of off-road cycling suitable for Cyclo Cross riders, mountain bikers and keen sportive riders wishing to experience an off-road challenge.

The event HQ for the Bodmin Adventure Cross is situated at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin,Cornwall. The event is organised by Tempus Leisure in partnership with Vin Cox, former Guinness record holder for the fastest circumnavigation of the World on a bicycle. 

Both Tempus Leisure and Vin Cox are keen to develop Adventure Cross which is aimed at all types of rider who is interested in a different and genuine challenge. 

The Dragon Centre has been the host venue for a national series Cyclo Cross event for the previous 5 years and the race circuit is integrated into the ground of the Leisure Centre.  The Adventure Cross Challenge will be utilising the race circuit and will also include parts of the newly developed Cardinham Woods off road cycling routes.

FREE space Camping and Camper Vans will be available during the weekend for Friday and Saturday night.  The camp site is situated on the Leisure Centre football pitch which will be at the heart of the event village. Families and friends are welcome to attend and take part in the events on offer. Your £30 entry fee into the Adventure Cross weekend will include one free pitch per entrant.  Spaces are limited so early booking is essential.

FRIDAY 30th August  

Access to the camp site will be available from 10am for set up and preparation by campers for the weekend. 

Junior training and racing will be available from 1pm in the grounds of the Dragon Centre.  Juniors will be given access to the Cyclo Cross circuit under supervision by British Cycling Coaches.  Various competitions and training will be on offer which is included in the entry fee. 

The weekend starts on Friday at 1pm with various off-road challenges and training for children under the supervision of British Cycling Coaches. Youths will be given access to the race circuit from 3pm for orientation and training tips in preparation for the evening Prologue and Sunday Super Sprint and age group races.

All above activities will be FREE of charge for participants in the weekend

 

From 6pm riders in the Saturday Adventure Cross will be offered the opportunity to compete in a Prologue style hot-lap competition.  Riders not participating in the Saturday Adventure Cross are also welcome to enter the Prologue.

SATURDAY 31st August  

At the heart of the weekend is the Adventure Cross on Saturday that offers individuals or teams the opportunity to take part in a 100 Km challenge that includes a mix of off - and on - road terrain. Riders will start at 8am and must complete three laps of a 33 Km circuit that will include the Cyclo Cross race circuit.  The challenging Cyclo Cross race circuit wraps around the grounds of the event HQ. After completing the Cross race circuit riders take to the open road travelling to the new Cardinham Woods cycle trails where more off-road challenges lie in wait

At Various points on each lap there will be timed sections for those wishing to spice up their ride with some competition.  Each timed section will have an overall winner at the end of the day and there will be a combined winner where all timed sections are added together including your Prologue time to give the fastest rider for the weekend.

Teams of two or three will be allowed and there will be a dedicated team transition point at the event HQ. The Team entry fee is £45 for teams or three. All team entrants will be eligible for free camping and access to all of the training and racing on Friday and Sunday.

Family and friends

We will be delighted if you bring your children, partners and friends. All will be offered FREE access to the Friday activities and races, or they can try out the Cyclo Cross race circuit during the Prologue and Sunday races. We want everyone to have a go.

SUNDAY 1st September

Sunday is a dedicated competition day for all standards and ages.  All competition will take place on the dedicated Cyclo Cross race circuit and we want everyone to have a go. The circuit will be adapted to suit younger participants.

Watch out for the ‘Super Sprint’ Cross race. A series of one lap head-to-head races will take place.  Whether you win or lose you will keep racing in different categories and rounds as you progress.  All will end up in a final race

  • 9am - 11am ‘Super Sprint’ Cross – All categories welcome including Novices and youths.  No one is eliminated – just keep racing in various heats throughout the morning.  Enter on line £2
  • 11:30am Under 12s South West Series race. Enter online £2
  • 12:00 noon Youth (Under 16) South West Series race. Enter online £7
  •  1:30pm Main Cyclo Cross race – Nationally ranked, South West Series round 1.  One hour long – enter on line £15

The Adventure Cross weekend will be suitable for all ages and standards. The Adventure Cross endurance challenge and the Cyclo Cross racing will take place around the central campsite, creating a festival atmosphere. 

Our aim is to encourage participation in Adventure Cross and Cyclo Cross. All ages and abilities will be catered for, from the nervous, adventurous, first timer or experienced Cross addict.

The Bodmin Cyclo Cross Race is the final event in the Bodmin Adventure Cross weekend. The race will be the first event in the 2013/14 calendar. This Cyclo Cross event is based at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin and makes full use of the varying terrain and grounds of the Centre. Now in its 6th year the race route has been developed over the years to provide improved and additional challenges The Bodmin Cyclo Cross Race is incorporated into a new Adventure Cross Weekend that starts on Friday 30th August and finishes with the main race on Sunday 1st September. Whilst the one hour Cyclo Cross will be the big attraction there will be a large range of additional Cross events on the Sunday for all ages and abilities including an open ‘Super Sprint’ eliminator race. Bring the family – we’re sure all will enjoy the Festival feel to the weekend. Saturday 31st August offers individuals or teams the opportunity to take part in a 100 kilometre challenge that includes a mix of off and on road terrain.
