St Ives CC "Circuit of the Fens" Road Race

Road , Peterborough – Sunday, 16 Jun 2013

Event Summary

Event Overview

The first "Circuit of the Fens" Elite road race is being planned to start and finish in the centre of the Fenland market town of Whittlesey, in Cambridgeshire. Although the race will not be on the Premier Calendar for 2013, the organising team are aiming to promote their race to the same level.

A total distance of circa 200km will make the race one of the longest on the domestic calendar in 2013. Since it will be taking place a week before the National Road Race Championship, it is hoped that the "Circuit of the Fens" will attract all of the top UK based teams.

About the Event

Info for Riders

To be held over mainly good roads, the terrain will range from flat to 'pancake'. Some of the local 'droves' may be incorporated into the latter part of the route but by that time the pattern of the race should have been decided. Winds across the fens are likely to provide the biggest obstacle for the riders to overcome, with echelons likely to be the order of the day. However, thanks to Cambridgeshire Highways, the race will benefit from a rolling road closure enforced by Cambridgeshire Police with NEG support. The finishing straight will be totally closed for the start and finish of the race. A full race convoy will add to the overall spectacle of the occasion. BC photo-finish will be present on the day although the organisers do not anticipate the winner to be decided by a bunch sprint. Refreshments and shower facilities will be available at the race HQ.
