An event for young Edinburgh riders (P7-S6) to come together, where performance doesn't matter.  Come and give it a go. Thanks to the City of Edinburgh for their generous support  

• Preference for Edinburgh schools who will be accepted on a first come basis but those from outside Edinburgh will be accepted on 28 May, if places are available  

Some cycling skills will be needed to negotiate the course at speed, however, the terrain is not intended to be severe to deter beginners. Technically challenging sections (i.e. scary) can be bypassed.

The ‘direct lines’ will challenge those hoping to progress to the September Scottish Schools mountain bike championship.

Inclusivity: Riders meeting socioeconomic criteria are eligible for reduced fees; email edschool.mtb@gmail.com.  

Group entries: Schools can ask for a group entry form by emailing edschool.mtb@gmail.com. Places may be limited after 28 May when riders from outside Edinburgh will be accepted. 

Race Format: The race will be a cross-country (XC) event in 4 age categories. There will be both individual girls' and boys' events which may be in mixed. 

Race Competitors: All competitors must be enrolled as a pupil in school at the time of racing and should be entered at the appropriate age group. 

RACE CATEGORIES 

Races may be adjusted to maximise participation, e.g. splitting or combining age groups.

• P7 Race:  20 mins. Pupils MUST be in P7 on the day of the race.
• S1/2 Race:  25 min. Pupils MUST either be in S1 or S2 and U14 on the day of the race.
• S3/4 Race: 30 mins. Pupils MUST either be in S3 or S4 and U16 on the day of the race.
• S5/6 Race: 35 mins. Pupils MUST either be in S5 or S6 and U18 on the day of the race.
