Gravel Rush - Winchester

Gravel , Winchester – Sunday, 08 Jun 2025

Event Summary

Event Overview

Welcome to Gravel Rush – a Gravel Race within a stunning private estate, nestled in the South Downs National Park! TrailX have once again teamed with up Vittoria UK to host an innovative event that will be accessible for all riders.

Whether you’re a hardened Gravel Rider, experienced in another discipline and fancy finding out what makes Gravel Racing so popular, or you’ve recently got into cycling and want to try a race, this is the event for you!

Although this is a lapped race don’t be lulled into thinking that it’ll be like a Cyclocross or XC race, the entire lap has been planned with Gravel Racing in mind, it has plenty of space for group riding, it’s open design will enable you keep your speed up and it’s challenging enough to make it feel like you’ve had a “proper day out”. Both the Adult or Youth distances get to use the same, perfect lap. Lapped racing also means that you’re never far from assistance, whether that’s because of a mechanical, or to grab another water bottle from your support crew.

Pairs Racing! You can enter the Gravel Rush as a pair, meaning that you register with another rider and split the riding between you. Divide the laps up however you like, the only restriction is that both of you must complete at least one lap. There will be a designated pairs change over area where the active rider will leave the course to hand the baton over to their partner for them to head out.

You don’t have to own a gravel bike to be able to ride at Gravel Rush, you are more than welcome to join us on a cyclocross or mountain bike.

About the Event

Info for Riders

Matterley Bowl, located in the South Downs National Park, is a scenic estate with private gravel roads, woodland tracks, and grass paths perfect for safe and memorable gravel racing.

The start and finish area in a grass-sided valley provides great spectator views and a lively atmosphere. During the race you will pass through this area multiple times, ensuring you receive lots of support.

The 9km lap features approximately 80% wide gravel roads and 20% dirt and grass tracks, all suitable for overtaking and fast racing. The route is ideal for popular gravel tyres, though cotton tyres, especially narrow ones, are not recommended.

Racers will encounter a mix of short, sharp climbs and longer, steadier gradients, but none that are too challenging.
