Event Overview
1st Chard Wheelers welcome riders to the superb road circuit at RNAS Merryfield, Ilton. Nicknamed ‘windy city’ at 3.2 miles around it’s probably the longest closed road circuit in the country, giving riders the experience of full on road racing without the traffic.
Spectators are welcome, but will need to sign in at the gate, as will all riders and helpers.
Important Stuff:
Ilton is a working military airfield, pre-entry only, there is no entry on the day.
Portable loos are provided, please use them, not the hedges or undergrowth.
There is a no gels or wrapper rule for the circuit. (Even the one discarded by mistake can cause havoc in a helicopter engine).
Any person not respecting the above will be disqualified and asked to leave immediately.

About the Event
Info for Riders
As RNAS Merryfield is an active working militaryairfield please observe the following:
- Pre-entry only. There will be no entry on the day. This is so your ID can be checked on entry to the airfield.
- Please only use the mobile loos provided (no quick dashes into the bushes).
- No gels or wrapped energy bars will be allowed during (one discarded one can cause massive damage to an aircraft engine).
- Riding and racing is allowed on the perimeter track only, no riding across the airfield or down the runways. If you are unfortunate enough to puncture or crash, make your way back to the start/finish around the perimeter track.
- The control tower compound is strictly out of bounds.
- Access to the site will be allowed from 9.00am and signing on will open at 9.15am.
- All riders will assemble for a pre-race briefing 10 minutes before each race at the start / finish area. The commissaires will be checking for gels and any wrapped race food.
- Anyone failing to obey the above instructions will be disqualified and barred from further races at the venue, and further action may be taken. The RNRMCA, South West Region and local clubs have worked extremely hard to get racing back at what is now a very busy military airfield. Don't spoil it!
