After finishing on the podium three times, Ross Tricker finally took his first victory of the Eastern League season at Davy Down Country Park.
The 33-year-old XRT-Elmy Cycles rider rode away from the off with Matthew Webber of Hackney GT in tow.
The pair managed to open up a gap over the rest of the field and then halfway round, Webber started to pull away a bit as Tricker began to struggle.
But then, Webber suffered a mechanical failure and had to run to the pits, allowing Tricker to get past and build a comfortable lead which he held until the end, crossing the line 1:06 ahead of Dan Stevens (Neon-Velo). Webber recovered well and finished third.
Tricker said: “When Matt had his mech break halfway through the race it was just as he was getting away. But I passed him and got my rhythm back.
“Matt ran for pit but he couldn’t have been further away. A couple of rounds ago, I got a puncture when I was leading so it feels like justice has been done!
“I’ve had top five a few times but it was nice to get the first win. I’ll be in the Eastern again
Next Saturday and then I’m off to the Southampton Trophy.
“I’m between jobs at the moment so I’m getting a lot of practicing in. It’s like being a pro!”
